It’s been eight years now since we’ve been training
and competing in the challenge and our training has
definitely changed during this time. Training advice
from other competitors and taking the time to
educate ourselves through books, classes and
personal training has greatly increased our aptitude
on the course. The early days consisted of your
basic bodybuilder exercises; you know the ones,
bench press, bicep curls, military press and the lat
pull downs. Little did we know then but the secret to
the challenge doesn’t lie within the pages of Muscle
and Fitness any more than it lies solely in the gym or
only on the course.
We hope to use this page to assist younger, newer
teams in their training and in doing so save them
many, if not all, of the mistakes we at Pro-Tech 8
made for all those years. Look for relevant articles,
scientifically proven supplementation advice and
hopefully an occasional column from a challenge
great. Please note that this area is dedicated not
just to the Challenge, but also to anyone looking for
information on improving not only their fitness of but
also the overall fitness of their department.
If you have any suggestions or contributions, please
feel free to send them in as I know we will always be
on the lookout for good material. We hope this can
be of use to many of you and feel free to drop us a
line with any questions you may have.

"We train with the same commitment we take into competition -- if you are not willing to give it everything you have, to go until there is nothing left to give then you should not bother competing." - "Gym Jones"

MANASSAS, Va. — A lawsuit filed by a former sailor has raised concerns about the dangers
of a workout regimen that is rapidly growing in popularity across the military.
The lawsuit, filed by former Information Systems Technician 1st Class Makimba Mimms in
Prince William County, Va., Circuit Court late last year, seeks $500,000, as well as punitive
damages, in connection with the permanent disability Mimms allegedly suffered as a result of
performing the CrossFit workout under the direction of a trainer at a Manassas gym.
CrossFit, an intense strength and conditioning regimen, is practiced by thousands worldwide
at dozens of ad-hoc clubs and is especially popular with military and law enforcement
communities. (Con't)
